Gueberschwihr
From 19/09/2026 to 20/09/2026“To make amends for years of irreparable wrongs”… (Phaedra, Racine). Relive, through illustrated kakemonos, restored centuries-old works and sites, the decade-long journey of an association dedicated to heritage, as you explore two museum spaces in Gueberschwihr!
This heritage discovery event is centered on the first venue, dedicated to sacred art and housed in the restored vaulted hall of the “most beautiful Romanesque bell tower in Alsace,” a historic monument since 1841.
Ten challenges have been met over the course of this decade, ranging from the ongoing inventory of the works to an assessment of the current state versus a conservation-restoration plan and its implementation.
Yes, “repairing the years’ (...) ravages” is possible, as much as can be done, through partnerships (the Ministry of Culture via the DRAC, the municipality and the local parish council, the Heritage Foundation, etc.); thanks to a motivated team of volunteers dedicated to their village, its history, and its heritage—members of the Association of Friends of Saint-Pantaléon Church (ADESP) of Gueberschwihr, supported by a scientific committee to assess and validate restoration and presentation choices, (almost) anything has become possible. This is what we invite you to discover!
Linked to the second site, just a stone’s throw from the church, the Gueberschwihr Museum—inaugurated during the 2024 European Heritage Days and located in the former kindergarten—offers a glimpse into the highlights of this decade-long initiative.
